Deadlock is a project based on the theory of body memory. Body memory is a colloquial term for various types of unconscious memory that allow people to perform tasks automatically. American philosopher Richard Shusterman distinguishes six types of body memory, including interpersonal memory, through which we work out patterns of body activity in relations with other people. Emotional connections, hidden fears, memories – all of this affects our corporeality, which Shusterman describes as “soma” – the unity of the mind and the body belonging to it. The project is a collection of daily gestures and activities that define the interpersonal relationships and social relationships that people engage in every day. Fine details. Set patterns. Routines. Blocks that we automatically apply in dealing with other people and which hinder communication. Impasse.
